We are now 2/3rds of the way through Lent. People often ask us what we do 'for Lent'. Well as I have talked about before we do Lenten Reading. We also fast on Wednesdays and Fridays. The fast is simple, instead of a full meal on these days we have soup and bread and a light casserole for supper. Breakfast is simpler, fewer choices and no desserts during Lent. You do get a little hungry but that is the point: to feel a need, to have less of a choice. In our culture we have so many choices. Bring someone from Eastern Europe into one of our stores and they just can't believe the variety. If we make things simpler we have the psychic energy to focus on things much more important like our spiritual life. Also with just 2 more weeks one feels the need to get more serious with the Lenten program. It is too precious to just let it pass by.
